There are howtos on how to mix distro's too - you can pull some apps
in from testing or unstable and debian will maintain the dependencies
while keeping the rest of your system in stable.  Its a bit complex
though, so I recommend sticking to the one distro.  I run unstable and
find it to be very stable, but I do not update very often (modem link),
and I won't notice because I'm a sysadmin by trade.  'testing' is a good
middle ground.  Follow my advice at your own risk :-)

No source build required, the unstable binary mythtv packages install
fine.
