[mythtv-users] MythTV core structure.

However this does nothing for connecting frontends in a way that shares
central configuration information, this is probably the single roadblock
preventing MythTV from being more widely used, the setup portion is just
cobbled together and doesn't make alot of sense. I am more than willing to
help fix this, so I am not just blowing off an opinion that I am not willing
to do anything about.
If there is clarity about how split installations work it would be highly
beneficial, I read every doc out there on MythTV and search the archives
until I dropped reading all I could about it's sctucture so that I
understand it, and I still really don't, not many people are going to do
that. Most likely they will read a mini-howto, try an install and give up
with the current scenario.
I want to see improvements to MythTV in general so that it gains a HUGE
userbase rather than a smattering of support. More users usually means more
features and more ideas and if these are to be implemented without effecting
what current users really love about MythTV then it really must be modulized
with centralized configuration information. Until that happens, MythTV is
doomed to a tiny installed base of geeks who actually like doing all these
low level tweaks necessary just to make the system function. Let the master
developers do what they do best, make the core functionality in a
modularized package, the way linux is designed, not some bloated package of
useless crap like a MS Media Center. Then other users can extend some
functionality through python/perl/whatever and MythTV will grow and grow
until it's a defacto standard.
It also would allow for special branching of modules to take on specialized
tasks such as one module for Analog capturing and another for DVB, while the
two are certainly similar, they are not the same and most people will not
use both. While this may be a bad example, it does get the point across for
modules.

Nope, you're absolutely correct. Unused code doesn't get loaded or gets
paged
out on linux.
