[mythtv-users] Recording Profiles

Under the setup for MythFrontend, there are settings for different recording profiles (Default, Live TV and Transcode).

Under what scenarios are these different profiles used? I noticed you can select a different recording profile ther the mythweb interface when selecting to record a program, but that is the only time I have seen it used.

I also could not find this in any documentation.
