IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael I took your tip and installed the latest CVS version AND IT
WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!
This has been a few weeks of frustration getting this thing to work.
Now I can start to enjoy Mythtv again!!!!
Next step is to install under Mandrake, I will make notes and post......

Michael,
first off, lirc allows only one module to be enabled at a time. You
cannot, for example, load lirc_sir and lirc_serial at the same time.
What device are you trying to record? Were you able to find an entry for
your device in http://www.lirc.org/remotes.tar.bz2 ? It appears some
people are experiencing issues with the 200L when they try to RECORD ir
codes. Transmitting works fine so long as you have a valid lircd.conf
file.
