In North America, that's basically the situation. Either you're using
EIT data and not running mythfilldatabase at all, subscribing to
Schedules Direct and letting mythfilldatabase pull everything
internally, or using mc2xml to generate xmltv files and feeding them
into mythfilldatabase manually. There is the occasional situation of
someone having a more capable antenna than Tribune has accounted for,
requiring them to use tv_cat to merge multiple lineups, but that's still
a (possibly unavoidable) case of bypassing the problem rather than
fixing it head on.

Outside of North America, XMLTV grabbers are supposed to have a common
command line format, allowing mythfilldatabase to run them internally
and automatically. If this mechanism is not working for some reason,
then it is still appropriate to find out why, rather than blindly
working around it, and that requires details.
