It may have been a pulse problem which I have now disabled. I still need 
to analyse this though when I have time. I smell a fish.
The dump I presented was in float form so it does look superficially ok. 
But I will capture some audio and look at it with audacity or something 
to see if I can spot distortions/clipping.
