here is my analysis of the various tickets. it may be wrong in the 
classification. it also might miss some tickets that are not referenced 
within the tickets mentioned below.

problem 1:

tickets #6208, #6948, #8211

the issue is that there can be more than one channel instance of a 
channel (different input sources). so the meaning of next and previous 
is not clearly defined.

problem 2:

tickets #6909, #7197, #9137, #9161, #9540

the issue is that myth forgot what input source it was using when 
alternating between channel number input and next and previous channel 
and change input source incorrectly.

although mentioned in one of the tickets, #9025 has nothing to do with 
this. in performing this analysis i was pretty stunned to realise that 
this problem has existed for over 2 years.

i have every instance of every channel with a different channel number
so for me the fix in #9540 was enough to fix problem 2.

daniel has made far more extensive changes in master in his fix for 
problem 1 and i don't think they would backport. these changes also fix 
problem 2 as it is just a specific instance of problem 1.
