Thanks for all the feedback. I guess that kills *that* theory.

I'll keep looking.

All 4 of my mythtv systems run on OpenSuSE 11.2, and only one of them is
an i586. The rest are x64 (atom, athlon and Core2 Duo). In fact, my main
frontend / backend outputs digital sound (optical) to a Creative
amplifier. I haven't noticed any sound issues lately on any of them. I
am running the latest trunk.

Regards,
Yianni.

Subject: [mythtv] Useage of myth on 64bit platforms

Over the last few months, I've been encountering problems with 5.1 AC3
DVD content (refer ticket #8792), but only when myth is configured for
5.1 sound. If the frontend is configured for stereo, it all works
perfectly. One of my colleagues has a more extreme version of the
problem where all content playback is affected (not just DVD). The
issue is definitely relatively recent (started around the May timeframe
for me).

What has surprised me is that no one else seems to be seeing this, and
it just occurred to me that perhaps the issue is 64 bit related. I can
confirm that the two known cases of this issue are on 64 bit platforms,
but I was wondering how many others out there are running 64 bit? The
other factor in common is that we both run OpenSuSE, although different
versions (11.1 and 11.2).

Cheers,

Richard.
