robert,

my patch is still relevant. audio levels match with this patch. it is
however in libavcodec of course and AFAICT wont be included in ffmpeg as
they didnt like the hack and I didnt like the compromises they would
agree to (compressed audio mode on 2ch mode, reducing quality). putting
it in avf would also reduce quality/dynamic range losing 2 bits.

however auto switching between 2 and 6 ch mode in ac3 is currently
broken. It currently only goes from 6 to 2 ch mode and never goes back
to 6 ch mode.

I do have a patch for this but it is a bit nasty in its swapping effects
and requires some audio changes so Ill hold off until the new audio
stuff is in place.

It may be that the patch I have is better than nothing for the interim
though. your call.

jya, we need a reconfigure mode that allows seemless upmix/source
channel changes without killing audio to swap between 2-6ch upmix and
native 6ch mode. should be easy.

cheers
mark
