Ideally, the listings grabber (in the case of XMLTV) or EIT processor
should check for and remove any special non-printing characters that
have no meaning in regular UTF-8/Latin-1 strings.
There's no reason why mythfilldatabase couldn't provide an extra layer
of verification/protection so that any bad characters are removed
before hitting the database when using grabbers that take advantage of
MFDB.
Cheers,
Nick
