Mike:  Thanks for these suggestions.  I will certainly look into adding 
a new version for trunk, but my main reason for adding the comment to 
the ticket was to draw attention formally to what seems to be a minimal 
but very significant change in the form of the cutlist and the behaviour 
to be expected.  Can you say if more changes are likely soon?
