I'm aware of that.  But we don't permit users to cut out core apps,
mythwelcome and mythavtest included, on any platform.  Adding extra
compile flags to one platform only makes things more difficult to
troubleshoot.  Building mythwelcome and mythavtest are a trivial
portion of building myth, and aside from that, are a random set of
things to build or not build.  In short, it's just not okay.

I believe this same discussion was had regarding gentoo years ago. There was
once a special ebuild that only built the frontend portion of mythtv.
However the devs chose to not support issues caused by this because they
only occurred when you only build the frontend and not the entire package.
Thus the reason why said ebuild nolonger exists.
