Can you create a ticket for this and attach a full log from
'mythfrontend -v playback' of a failed attempt at playback.

This is a well known issue that is less well understood. There has
been a fair amount of discussion about it on irc and there's no need
to create a ticket - I can't imagine 0.22 will go out without it being
fixed. The trick to get past it it at the moment is to trigger a
repaint of the playback window - fairly easy with a keyboard and some
alt-tabbing, less easy via a remote.
