I've seen that problem a couple of times, too.  It's yet another thing
that needs to be looked into.  The large keyframe distance might be a
factor in both problems, but no, I doubt the two are otherwise related.

Hmm, now that you mention it, I think everytime I've seen the problem,
it's also been while watching baseball or auto racing slightly behind
real-time.  Obviously, the HD-PVR hates sports! :)

Are you using VDPAU or software decoding and have you seen the problem
with MPEG2 recordings as well?  I've only seen the problem using VDPAU
on HD-PVR recordings and haven't seen it using software decoding on
MPEG2 recordings.  I'm curious to see/hear if it happens using VDPAU
on MPEG2 recordings.
