always sending the PIn would cause the channel to change to 1111 (or 
whatever). this would not be the best.

i will do as you suggest and ask on users.
what i suspect would really be needed is something akin to the 
commercial detection code which would detect the PIN screen and then 
(and only then) provide the PIN.
