[mythtv] problems with a SBE connecting to a MBE

i have an SBE with a DVB-T card
i using that to look at the experimental transmissions that are being 
broadcast here in ireland
myth had quite a lot of trouble with these transmissions (MPEG4)
i recently upgraded to svn #21510 and things seemed to be a lot better

but i've noticed something odd

i've had a few weird crashes, so i decided to clear out the logs and 
start the MBE and SBE
then i noticed that i could not see the SBE

so i ran the MBE, SBE and the frontend under gdb and it appears that the 
SBE says it is running as an SBE, but does not seem to connect to the MBE

is this a known problem?
i have the logs

could it be something to do with the MPEG4 that is being broadcast

does the backend initiate the EIT scan before it connects to the MBE?

should i add to trac?
