I never noticed that this ticket was originally opened, and shortly
after it was I implemented a very similar feature on my own. I
submitted a patch in Ticket #4492 that does the same thing (but in a
more flexible way) and offers a few additional configurations for fast
forward, rewind, and slowmo speed. Perhaps my submitted patch can be
consider in place of this.
