Well maybe the mythtv community can help persuade Toshiba do open the
devices. Here is a blog post with a link to an online petition to open
specifications for the players:

Note: Do not be deceived by ipetition you have successfully add your name to
the petition and do not need to make any donation. I assume those reading
this list will be able to figure that out but found this practice really
annoying.
