[mythtv] Polling Mythserver for Status

I'm writing a (KDE) app that displays the status of my mythbox - currently
recording, free disk space, pending recordings - that sort of thing.
It gets the info via the myth protocol:

No problems there - but being the anal sort of person I am I want the display
to be as up to date as possible. To that end I'd like to poll at least every
minute, maybe even every ten seconds.
Will this strain the server? resource leaks or cpu load?
Thanks,
