Not any more, the PIN replaces the password. Instead the frontend requests the 
password from the backend.

The PIN and it's default to blocking all connections is a security measure 
akin to "Skip Networking" in mysql. It prevents new backends on public LANs 
(e.g. University networks) being automatically available to everyone.

Setting a single pin on the backend is IMHO easier than setting up the 
database host and password on every frontend. (mysql.txt)
