I was thinking Matt's script failure was more likely a missing
$MYTHTV_HOME - the script's default value of /var/lib/mythtv/ is
created only when installing mythtv-suite from atrpms.net I think. I'm
adding a $MYTHTV_HOME test in my patch.

Yes I remember now too, having fixed it myself and forgotten about it.
It's a Fedora udev/perms issue not creating devices with
non-root-accessible groups. I'll add a more explanatory line for us
RH/Fedora users.
