User Jobs have a section in the MythTV Status Screen
(under Information in the default menus)
that can display a percentage completion.
That is possible without a plugin.

Having an animated "fuel gauge",
however, currently requires a plugin.
For that, start exploring with the
mythdvd and mythvideo plugins
