It happens even in regular menu screens, such as the main menu, that
don't use the network.
One thing I haven't tested yet is whether it's dependent upon how
long the machine is asleep.

I can certainly try that, though to be honest I don't know where the
log messages end up on OS X. Are they in the console logs, or do I
need to run MFE from Terminal (i.e.: 'open MythFrontend.app -v all')?
