I usually had to do similar things due to CAM lockups (I think).

With the last batch of changes, I've had no such lockups any more. The 
only problem I'm experiencing now seems to be that LiveTV hangs between 
programs (ticket 2335 - http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/2335).
