We can have very long discussions on this point.
That's the exact reason I made the patch, yes it's a dirty patch, I
completely agree with this. Yet it's a temporary solution which makes it
possible for people who dare to experiment with DVB in general to use
MythTV with specific network IDs.
The best solution might be to add an option for selecting the network
ID. There was already some discussion on this point in the past,
motivation for such an addition was low since it's not DVB specification
compliant.
There however is one problem in the current implementation of the DVB
part which complicates the network ID selection. The NITo caching
mechanism is not working correctly as far as I could see. The system
works if there is only one other network ID, there however can (and
will) be many more, this is not handled correctly.
Once this part is fixed it becomes much easier to incorporate a network
ID selection. Handling/caching of NIT and NITo could all be done from
one function, default network ID would be the one found in NIT with a
manual option to override (if accepted by all of course :-) ).
There will probably be a lot more discussions on this point but for the
time being the dirty patch works for me and other people which takes
the pressure a bit off the issue.
If I can find the time I'll try to take a more detailed look at the
NIT/NITo caching. I'm no expert programmer but always open for ideas and
suggestions.
Regds,
Christiaan.
