It uses the Creative Commons license, from the site:
It allows you to use and modify the script for noncommercial purposes.
For commercial use, I distribute licenses of the script for 15 euros.

My understanding is that a gpl'd player was one of the driving goals.
 There are companies that sell systems with myth loaded, the CC
license that is used would force them to pay and preclude its
inclusion in the standard mythweb distribution
