Huh? The autoselection code originally written so that DVB
and ATSC streams would be in your primary or secondary language (i.e. in
Belgium you would maybe want Flemish over French and French over
English.) In the USA & Canada you usually have to
a desired preference for the French, English or Spanish streams.
And if you are or are not blind you will have a preference over
whether you get audio commentary on the what is happening on the
screen. (Although I did watch 20 minutes of a Simpsons episode
before I realized the 'Nature' like description of everything
homer was doing wasn't part of the intended comedy.) BTW ATSC
always carries AC3, and DTS has been seen in the wild for DVB.

I don't know anything about DVD playback in MythTV, but I'm
pretty sure I didn't write any of the auto-selection code with
DVD playback in mind; the internal DVD player wasn't really
usable yet. Stanley has done work on this, but I've never
tested it. Doing auto-selection on DVD's is not as simple as
with DVB/ATSC streams so it will probably take some time to
perfect.
