Ok, I updated to SVN head again today and sure enough tuning problem 
came back as before. For me it was happening very regularly watching 
LiveTV, so after determining that the behaviour was the same I set about 
testing the patches.

I applied all three patches individually and tested over 20 channel 
changes with each and had no tuning problems at all.

Seems like a good start.

Now if I could just work out why trunk is hard-locking my machine with 
no kernel messages to be seen ....
