I was hoping someone close to the code would respond but my take as a  
bystander is the improvements are happening as part of ticket 12  
(http://cvs.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/12) which belongs to Isaac.  
There's no completion date promised or implied but that's one of the  
rights you claim when you're the founder of the project. It will  
happen when it happens.

Most of the fancy visual effects in the other UIs rely on OpenGL  
acceleration which is lacking in current Myth so that's part of what  
the ticket will bring. Beyond that I agree there's a need for someone  
with a good eye for visual design to step up. No offence to the many  
thoughtful theme creators, there are a lot of good looking ones  
around, but I have yet to see one that makes me gasp and forget that  
any other media software exists. But, that's a common problem with  
open source projects.

Oh, again I'm not the official speaker on this but there was a post a  
few weeks ago reminding people that SoC 2006 was a bit of a bust.  
Basically 0 completed projects of the 10 or so that were initiated.  
There's no appetite for SoC 2007.
