Thanks for this offer.  I'm afraid I didn't keep this file and it's been 
  overwritten during the successful creation of a normal dvd from dvb 
recordings. I just kept info.xml, streaminfo.xml and the two data 
streams - stream.mv2 and stream0.ac3

I'm not at all concerned about chapter structure etc in an archive copy 
of the older, bigger files; I'd just like to dump them to a dvd in a 
form that I can retrieve and play on demand.  Perhaps I should try one 
of the other mytharchive menu/autoplay options and see what happens. The 
file compression looked as if it had done the right thing, but it took 
quite a long time about it (I suppose that it was, in fact, near 
real-time) and it was disappointing to have the whole process fail near 
the end with no obvious way to recover!
