Speaking of which, it occurs to me that one clear advantage of being
able to explicitly specify whether to use the myth protocol or
directly access the recordings directory is with combined
frontend/backend boxes, as users are unable to use the "mount/not
mount" method to control how recordings are accessed by the frontend.
