Aha, but that's the bit I disagree with (to a certain extent)

The ear most certainly is insensitive to phase at high freqs, the only 
point it is slightly sensitive is bass freqs.  Opinion differs on how 
much, but I think if you compare a big sealed box sub system to a ported 
sub driven hard then you will notice a very distinct different in sound 
quality (sealed box is much better).  Disadvantage of sealed box is the 
lack of powerhandling though, so they aren't common in normal HT 
applications

I guess I would agree that an IIR could be better for HT applications - 
good point didn't really have my brain in gear.  I doubt the convolution 
is a big deal, but the time delay could be a disadvantage.

In my case I am processing massive 65535 tap filters on each channel for 
my setup.  CPU is around 15% for the audio on a P2.8Ghz.
