Hi all,

I am Justin Hunt, and I am working on the configuration revamp this summer. I am in 3rd year at the University of Toronto and I am a information systems specialist within the department of computer science.

There are several settings which I have identified which may be removed, unless there is compelling reasons not to. Please look through the following list of options, and reasons, to see if there are any which you feel should not be removed.

Setting: reason
Aggressive sound card buffering: Never had any problems using it, and more buffering is never a bad idea
use arrow key accelerators: Consistent behavior, anyone not using it?
Display genre colors: J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation
Display genre text: J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation
Display Channel Icon: Let the theme decide
Channels to display: causes problems when changed
Time blocks to display: causes problems when changed
What to call unknown program: just pick something
What category to give unknown program: just pick something
Use select to change channel in guide: J. Donavan Stanley says: "Initiative behavior.", and to set the default to on
Record threshold: J. Donavan Stanley says: "The default of 16 seems to work for everyone."
Allow channel jumping in guide: if the keymap allows it ok, otherwise thats ok too
Prompt at end of recording: J. Donavan Stanley says: "The “PlaybackExitPrompt” performs a superset of this setting anyway"
Clear saved position on playback: J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation
Alternate clear saved position: J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation
List newest recordings first: does anyone not have this on?
Time offset for thumbnail preview images: most users probably don't change this since you cant get it perfectly right for all programs anyways
Start in title section: J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation
Show group summary: default change to enable, J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation
Default group filter to apply: default change to remember recording group, J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation
Save current group filter when changed: J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation
Show filter name instead of all programs: J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation "all programs should mean all programs"
Sticky keys: enable, J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation "all programs should mean all programs", I've never turned this on, so I would like some feedback on this one in particular
Reverse direction in fast forward / rewind: J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation
Reschedule higher priorities: J. Donavan Stanley's recommendation: "Allows more intuitive behavior based on user feedback.", Daniel Kristansson said "I don't think you can remove the reschedule higher priorities options."

Daniel has also suggested that these be made into backend options:
  ATSC Signal threshold
Time limit for ATSC signal lock
  HD Ringbuffer size (in kb)

All the other settings will still be available in the future, although they will be moved, and categorized more logically.

Please post any feedback you have on these proposed removals, or any other ideas for the configuration revamp.

Thank you,
Justin

My appologies if this is not properly formatted on your email client.
