[mythtv] misrecognized streams in 10476 on one ATSC channel only

I've been trying to debug or workaround a problem I described on
mythtv-users (search for "no audio during playback ..." dated 7/08/06).
My latest attempt is to upgrade to subversion head to see if that solves
the problem. It does not - in fact it makes the problem worse.
To reiterate from my previous message:
- most channels record and playback fine
- one ATSC channel seems to record fine, and mplayer can handle the
recorded .mpg file fine. mythfrontend plays back with no sound (in 10258)
- I noted that the frontend log in 10258 showed what seemed to be
audio streams misrecognized as mpeg1video. The backend log during record
listed 3 AC3 streams.
I've included snippets of logs during record and playback from 10258.
Now in 10476, using the same file as was recorded in 10358, the same
problem of misrecognizing streams seems to remain, but in addition the
video doesn't play at all for recording on this channel (including the
same recording as deing described before).
Again in 10476, other pre-existing and contemporary files play back
fine. seems that only this one channel is a problem.
Here is the frontend log from 10476 for the file that doesn't work. the
"Could not find codec parameters" logs are new, as is the prebuffering
at the end.

This pretty much hangs, and the expedient solution of 'killall' is
needed to recover.
Any suggestions on further trials / debugging? I can't say I know
anything about how/where TS are split into streams and stream types
detected ...
FWIW: System is gentoo, pretty much current, Athlon 3200+.
