I would think this would be fairly obvious. Cut the file in half and
run the crashing process on both halves, whichever one crashes is
the broken one. Repeat until you have a small enough piece.

You might also try to just play the file with mplayer or mythtv to find
the broken piece since this appears to be a ffmpeg problem and would
crash those programs as well. The last picture you see or time you note
should give you a good idea of where the problem is.
