And 1000/16 is the minimum tuning resolution of the kernel's tuner 
module (62.5kHz)--so, where before you specified an arbitrary number 
having to do with the implementation in the driver (i.e. change by 12 
units), you now specify a value in kHz (i.e 750kHz).  Therefore, you are 
not losing (or even changing) fine tuning granularity--just using a 
different unit.
