That would completely depend on the user's ALSA configuration... If
there's an ~/.asoundrc or /etc/asound.conf that re-defines !default to
use a 2-channel-only capable plugin (like dmix), it won't--no matter
what Myth does. If the user doesn't re-define !default, it depends on
the sound card's configuration (see /usr/share/alsa/cards/*.conf for
specifics)--some use dmix (see ATIIXP.conf) and other plugins for
!default to give the user a more "Windows-like" experience. :(

However, if we're going to put a note in, I highly recommend making a
note of where to find info on creating an ALSA configuration so the user
doesn't have to specify all the device options in Myth, but instead
specifies a name defined in his/her ALSA configuration. Of course, this
would mean I should probably do as I've been meaning--clean up the
Wiki's ALSA configuration stuff (the part there now is a completely
hacked up version of a post I sent to the ML) and expand on it to make
it more appropriate for general use. Maybe I can work on it while
traveling this week.
