It's not just news. Many of my Conan O'Brien listings (and probably
other late-night talk shows) do the same thing - airdates of some date
in 1990 or something (maybe first airing of the show?). Perhaps you
can record some re-run of Jay or Conan or Dave or someone and see what
happens there ...

Rather than blacklisting certain categories in the oldrecorded table,
it might be better to "whitelist" certain categories -- sitcoms,
movies, drama, etc. I don't know, this could go either way. But with
the whitelisting approach, people know what they tend to record
anyway. I'm thinking this could be something user-configured in
config.php or something, maybe even with some "easy" defaults (movies,
dramas, etc.).
