20 seconds to aquire a lock is awfully bad, less than 2-4 seconds is good!
Less than 2 seconds probably requires an optimized frontend driver.

So it's not related to MythTV at all, since another program displays the
same behaviors.

I would recommend looking into any relevant field, if you have the time!
