That's ok, the screen is wider after all. The font size is scaled according to
the height of the screen,

It it is a 16:9 screen this should be fine. I tested with a 1200x1200
resolution on my 1920x1200 screen just to make sure the scaling for
non-square display pixels worked.

Are you using Xinerama?
Or display resolution switching?

In both cases you need to tell MythTV the physical aspect ratio of your
screen because it can't determine it accurately from the X server.
The settings are right after the Xinerama screen setting and in the 
display resolution switching pane, resp.)

If that isn't the problem, can you take a digital photo of your
screen for me so I can compare with the fonts on my screen?

Oh, are you using Chromakey OSD or regular blended OSD?
