Version 1 works for me too except that it doesn't allow to get perfect
sync with TV output while playing avi files

As opposite to version 1, version 2 allows me to get perfect sync with
TV output while playing avi files!!!
This is a much appreciated feature as actually, mythtv is the only
program that I know being able to get perfect sync with the TV
framerate.

I had still no time to try version 3...
