FYI The "automagic config settings" patch links MythTV to libXvMCW 
instead of a vendor XvMC library if it is available. It's supposed to 
be in the next Xorg release, and it let me retire my dlopen patch for 
XvMC.

The only problem with it is that right now it's another dependency if 
you are distributing a MythTV binary. Since it is just a dlopen wrapper, 
it is pretty easy to compile and install libXvMCW outside of Xorg though.
