The difference is the user is free to create their own intermediate
categories in between.   Or multiple levels of these settings.
Real numbers also work for this...

Both are good.

I fear that scalar is alraedy heavily overloaded.   Just beause I
wanted one show to beat out another as to when it recorded, doesn't
necessarily mean I want the other one to vanish to keep, say, an 
already watched version of the higher priority show.

Truth is rerun vs new show makes a difference.  For example, some shows
can be easily recovered and some aren't on again for months or years
