[mythtv] Strange hangs of mythbackend - loosing database connection

Hello everyone,

since a few days (always following CVS, last update today's morning) i 
have some strange problems with mythbackend. If I want to watch a 
recording while it records or want to view the recordingslist in mythweb 
with a recording in progress, mythbackend hangs or sometimes crashes. In 
the log I found the following:

Character set 'latin1' is not a compiled character set and is not 
specified in the '/usr/share/mysql/charsets/Index.xml' file
2005-01-31 17:19:19.832 Unable to connect to database!
2005-01-31 17:19:19.832 Driver error was [1/2019]:
QMYSQL3: Unable to connect
Database error was:
Can't initialize character set latin1 (path: /usr/share/mysql/charsets/)

couldn't open db
Would you like to configure the database connection now? [yes]

So I thought maybe my SQL Server is bad. But the charset is activated 
and the according XML file is in the path stated above. latin1 is also 
listed in Index.xml - so it seems that here is no error. Using the 
mysql-command-line-client with latin1 is no problem, too. My 
mysql-Version is 4.1.8 if that matters.

Has anybody a hint, where I should look next?
