You're correct - sorry about that.  I normally use OSS compat (/dev/dsp)
and everything works fine.  When I do the test mentioned above, I see
video fine, but no sound.  

There is *physically* another sound card in the system, but I'm 99.9%
sure that's not the problem b/c I believe it's disabled in BIOS and ALSA
certainly doesn't know about it:

[root at xyz root]# cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [M2496          ]: ICE1712 - M Audio Delta DiO 2496
                     M Audio Delta DiO 2496 at 0xdc00, irq 9

Let me know what else I can do to help troubleshoot.
