Hate to ask a stupid question - I have no doubt you've already checked this,
but are you loading the module dvb-ttpci? You should see
/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0 if you are. MythTV (and ALL other Linux DVB
apps) require this.

just checked to be sure :-)

it will not let me select the correct cardinput
it will only give me /dev/v4l/video0 or /dev/v4l/video1 as options
but if you look at the output from ivtv-detect:

driver: ivtv-0.4.0 (tagged release)
card: WinTV PVR 350, bus info 0000:00:0c.0, ivtv card #0
hardware: saa7115 saa7127 msp34xx tveeprom
     /dev/v4l/video0: MPG encoding (links: /dev/video0)
     /dev/v4l/radio0: Radio
       /dev/v4l/vbi0: VBI encoding (links: /dev/vbi0)
/dev/v4l/vbi4: VBI from MPG (links: /dev/vbi4)
       /dev/v4l/vbi8: VBI decoding (links: /dev/vbi8)
    /dev/v4l/video16: MPG decoding (links: /dev/video16)
    /dev/v4l/video24: PCM encoding (links: /dev/video24)
    /dev/v4l/video32: YUV encoding (links: /dev/video32)
    /dev/v4l/video48: YUV decoding (links: /dev/video48)

driver: ivtv-0.4.0 (tagged release)
card: WinTV PVR 350, bus info 0000:00:0f.0, ivtv card #1
hardware: saa7115 saa7127 msp34xx tveeprom
     /dev/v4l/video1: MPG encoding (links: /dev/video1)
     /dev/v4l/radio1: Radio
       /dev/v4l/vbi1: VBI encoding (links: /dev/vbi1)
/dev/v4l/vbi5: VBI from MPG (links: /dev/vbi5)
       /dev/v4l/vbi9: VBI decoding (links: /dev/vbi9)
    /dev/v4l/video17: MPG decoding (links: /dev/video17)
    /dev/v4l/video25: PCM encoding (links: /dev/video25)
    /dev/v4l/video33: YUV encoding (links: /dev/video33)
    /dev/v4l/video49: YUV decoding (links: /dev/video49)

driver: v4l
card: Logitech QuickCam Orbit
     /dev/v4l/video2: YUV encoding (links: /dev/video2)

driver: saa7146 v4l2-0.5.0
card: dvb, bus info PCI:0000:00:0d.0
     /dev/v4l/video3: YUV encoding (links: /dev/video3)

you will see that my dvb card is /dev/v4l/video3

this is on a gentoo system with 2.6.14-gentoo-r4

regards

But surely you want the card to be a dvb card and not a v4l one ? (I'm not
saying that v4l won't work outside of mythtv, but inside it needs to be of
type dvb for the scan to work)

Regards
