I solved this problem a different way on my system: I show thumbnails
but not the mini video window.

If you want to try and tackle it, a simple way to find the code in
question is to run it in the debugger, and stop it while it's consuming
so much cpu.  Shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 tries.

I don't think you can query Xv about its smallest window, but I could be
wrong.  I think it's more likely to be driver bugs rather than stated
limitations.
