If anyone is interested, I made some local changes to dvbrecorder a few 
weeks ago that gave me multiple audio pids/streams in livetv/recordings.

Pretty academic for me, as UK DVB-T (i.e. Freeview) doesn't have 
alternative audio streams - only an extra audio channel for the visually 
impaired. I did however test it with multiple audio pids from the same 
multiplex and it seemed to work... (some sync issues probably related to 
trying to sync a video stream with a totally unrelated audio stream)

Can't vouch for whether it would work with ac3 streams.
