Oh, cool!  I know jack about Jack, but that being the case, Ed's code 
should be pretty trivial to adapt for the OS X needs.  At any rate, 
trivial or not-so-trivial, I plan to take advantage of the new base 
class as soon as it's available.  Lower code redundancy is a good 
thing.
