[mythtv] severe stuttering and x2 speed playback in 0.16

i have upgraded to 0.16 and am seeing a problem with both liveTV and
playback. Every so often, the playback suddenly speeds up to x2 playback
speed..with no sound. The same happens on liveTV - it suddenly jumps to a x2
speed playback (no sound)...pauses for half a second while things catch up -
followed by another burst of x2 speed. In both cases, the only way to stop
it happening is to pause the playback for a second or two, and then continue
watching.

It seems to happen when there is a spike of corruption on the mpeg stream -
i'm using DVB so a corruption spike is fairly common. When it happens, it
causes the thing to appear to loose sync with the datastream.
Interestingly, the same is true when i change channel, although after about
2-3 seconds following a channel change it normally re-sync's itself and
stops trying to run a x2 speed.

apologies for the slightly handwaving description of what is going on, but i
dont have any other info. Anyone got any thoughts??

gentoo, epia-kernel 2.4.24
xfree-epia 4.3.99.902-r4
